NICK'S SOLO ALBUM
TITLE - NICHOLAS JONAS
YEAR - 2004
LABEL - INO/DAYLIGHT/COLUMBIA RECORDS
GENRE - CHRISTIAN/POP/ADULT CONTEMPORARY
In late 2003, after Nicholas recorded his demo CD of Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer), Mr. Jonas was showing it to one of the Jonas's doctors, who asked to give it to a friend. That friend just so happened to work at INO Records, a small Christian recording label. He was impressed not only by Nick's voice, but by the song's message, and immediately started giving it airplay on radio stations everywhere. By the beginning of 2004, Nick had been signed to INO Records, who partnered with Daylight and Columbia, and his album was in the works!
The first half of the year was probably spent writing songs. Nick worked with his family as well as the people at INO, including Carl Sturken and Evan Rogers, to name a few. He wrote or co-wrote more than half the songs on his record, most notably Time For Me To Fly, Look Me in the Eyes, and Please Be Mine, all of whichwere re-recorded for future Jonas Brothers albums. It is unknown when exactly Nicholas started recording, so his exact age is also unknown, but he was either 11 and/or 12, during the time the album was recorded. Dear God, the first single off the album, was released in October of 2004, followed by the newly recorded Joy to the World. Although Time For Me to Fly was also a single, it did not get much, if any, airplay.
Nick's album did not do well, as the label was unsure of how to market it. The original release date was November 23, 2004, but kept being pushed back. It was eventually released for a very short time in extremely limited number, and then pulled from stores altogether. People worldwide did buy his album in online stores at the time, but never received it as the CD was never issued and the orders were cancelled. In 2005, Steve Greenburg, an executive at Columbia Records who had not previously worked with Nick, hand-picked the album from a selection of music from dropped artists. He liked Nick's voice, and soon after created the Jonas Brothers.
